Ten Commandments for the Covenant Community

Deuteronomy 5:1-4
1 Moses called all the people of Israel together and said, “Listen carefully, Israel. Hear the decrees and regulations I am giving you today, so you may learn them and obey them!

2 “The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Mount Sinai. 3 The Lord did not make this covenant with our ancestors, but with all of us who are alive today. 4 At the mountain the Lord spoke to you face to face from the heart of the fire.
It's a short passage this week- yet, try to read through the end of the chapter to the very last verse- there's a special message about how we can all live prosperous lives. Think about the word prosperous - how would God define a prosperous life for us and how would we define a prosperous life for us?

But back to the main point for this week - God made a covenant for people who were ALIVE. To the Israelites, He gave the 10 Commandments listed in this chapter.

As we move forward into the future and apply it to our lives today- what covenant did God, through Jesus, make with us? And how did Jesus, who sent the Holy Spirit, continue the covenant with people who were ALIVE?

How is this covenant that God made, this promise, how is it alive in your life today? Are we living a life that feels and looks alive - when people see us act and live differently from the world's take and take more attitude- will we hear people say, "there goes A LIVE one!" in wonder and curiosity as to what makes us different?

Do I live a life under the promise of God's grace through Christ's gift to us? Do I listen to the Holy Spirit, sent to us to help me learn and be alive in Christ?

God's promise, His covenant, is alive and well - is it alive and well in me?
