Those of us in southern California are known to travel great distances and spend lots of time on the road getting to a wide variety of destinations. Why not start 2010 traveling the road that leads to your most important and eternal destination … connecting to God!
We start every year with a series of messages that remind us of what we are all about as the church on the corner of Avenue R and 20th Street East. Our mission is “transforming lives through Christ”, which we see happening as people connect to God, people, and ministry. This month we are going to take a new and different look at how we connect to God.
More commonly known as the Roman Road of Salvation, we are going to spend four weeks taking a tour of Paul’s letter to the Romans. In Romans we can see a clear road that leads to God. It will follow four major points:
1. GOD LOVES YOU AND CREATED YOU TO HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM.
Romans 1:17 … “For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
2. OUR SIN KEEPS US FROM HAVING A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.
Romans 3:23 … “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
3. ONLY THROUGH JESUS CHRIST CAN YOU HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.
Romans 6:23 … “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
4. YOU MUST PERSONALLY RESPOND BY TRUSTING JESUS CHRIST AS SAVIOR AND LORD.
Romans 10:19 … “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
